Charles Barkley: “I’m 54 Years Old. I’ve Never Thought About Those Statues A Day In My Life”

By  |

NBA legend Sir Charles Barkley has a strong message for Leftists that are hell-bent on tearing down monuments dedicated to the memories of soldiers who fought in America’s Civil War,

“I’m 54 years old. I’ve never thought about those statues a day in my life.”

Barkley made his comments to Rick Karle of WBRC in Birmingham.

Since retiring from the NBA, Barkley has become a fountain of common sense, and has delved into the arena of politics, especially when it comes to efforts, on the part of some, to destroy and obstruct.

The Left’s current agenda involves removing Confederate Flags from public places, renaming roads and parks that are named after Confederate Army leaders, and taking down or destroying monuments that are dedicated to those who fought on the side of the South.

“I think if you ask most black people to be honest, they ain’t thought a day in their life about those stupid statues.

What we as black people need to do: we need to worry about getting our education, we need to stop killing each other, we need to try to find a way to have more economic opportunity and things like that.”

Barkley has been a steadfast advocate for improving the black community, and in previous interviews, has been highly critical of the idea that to be intelligent or to speak clearly is something to be disparaged.

During the radio show, Afternoons with Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis, he said that this notion is only serving to hold black people back,

“One of the reasons we’re never going to be successful as a whole, because of other black people, and for some reason we are brainwashed to think, if you’re not a thug or an idiot, you’re not black enough.”

Barkley also took some heat from the Left after standing up for the police officers who were being attacked by the Leftist organization, Black Lives Matters.

In an interview with ESPN’s The Dan Le Batard Show, the former NBA star said,

“The cops have made some mistakes; black people have made some mistakes.

We have to sit back and be honest with each other.

The cops have made some mistakes, that don’t give us the right to riot and shoot cops.”

Returning to the topic at hand, Barkley confirmed that trying to argue with people on either side of the debate, to tear down the statues in America, is simply a waste of time.

“I’m wasting my time and energy screaming at a neo-Nazi or [saying] ‘Man, you’ve got to take this statue down.’”
