Why Liberals Are Outraged Ben Carson Is The New HUD Secretary
Donald Trump’s choice of having Dr. Ben Carson leading the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) had Democrats and Leftists in a tizzy.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi weighed in on the issue, releasing a statement:
“Dr. Ben Carson is a disconcerting and disturbingly unqualified choice to lead a department as complex and consequential as Housing and Urban Development.
Our country deserves a HUD Secretary with the relevant experience to protect the rights of homeowners and renters, particularly in low income and minority communities, and to ensure that everyone in our country can have access to safe and affordable housing without facing discrimination or homelessness.
There is no evidence that Dr. Carson brings the necessary credentials to hold a position with such immense responsibilities and impact on families and communities across America.”
To begin with, Pelosi’s assertion runs along the lines of other Leftists who have claimed that the fact that Carson has never held a position within the government should disqualify the former Republican presidential candidate from being selected.
Keep in mind that Carson would be serving in the administration that is headed by Donald Trump, a man who has never held a government position, and who ran on a platform to reverse, or at the very least correct, the eight years of fundamentally transforming the United States.
It would stand to reason that the selection of Carson would actually align with the will of the people, who were clearly tired of career politicians as they selected Trump to be the president.
Secondly, as has been pointed out on many news outlets, Dr. Carson, at the most, grew up in public housing as a child, and at the least, grew up near public housing complexes. He may have first hand knowledge as to what the problems are within the housing projects, and may have solutions on how to empower people to pull themselves out of poverty, as he did himself.
The second argument, that running the Department of Housing and Urban Development is just too darn complex and complicated for Dr. Carson is just ludicrous. Of the possible careers that a person can choose to pursue when they grow up, a brain surgeon will put a person in situations that are as complex as they come.
On the contrast, being a House of Representatives member, as in the case of Nancy Pelosi, is clearly not that complicated or complex, especially as she has admitted to not reading the bills that she was voting in favor of, as in the case of Obamacare.
The fact that Democrats have had absolute monopolies on running cities that contain public housing where crime and poverty are spreading, such as Carson’s childhood city of Detroit, would actually suggest that it is the Democrats are not qualified to be running the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Perhaps Pelosi and the Left should set partisan politics aside, for once, and give a person a chance before declaring defeat.
